Installation of shrubbery in the park area. <br /> Alternate 4 Cost - $64,126 <br /> This item was included in the event the City wished to withhold the plantings until <br /> such time as drought conditions improve. Staffs assessment is that this material <br /> will not require significant water and as such it is recommending approval. <br /> For the Oak Woodland area, the alternates include: <br /> The park base bid includes the cost of planting the Oak Woodland's trees and <br /> construction of the storm water facilities to be included in this area for water runoff from <br /> the park area. Since the Oak Woodland will be initially hand watered with recycled water <br /> until the material can survive in the natural environment, this area does not include any <br /> irrigation. As such, even if the City Council decides to eliminate the following three <br /> alternatives, the Oak Woodland area would still be planted with trees and there would be <br /> an expectation that these other improvements would be added at a later date. The <br /> alternates are as follows: <br /> 5. Installation of pathway lighting to allow for access from the Oak Vista <br /> neighborhood to the park area. <br /> Alternate 5 Cost - $190,000 <br /> 6. Site construction including pathways, storm water infrastructure overlook areas, <br /> retaining walls, etc. <br /> Alternate 6 Cost - $899,116 <br /> 7. Site amenities including benches, rock/bolder features, fencing, trash receptacles, <br /> benches, drinking fountain, etc. <br /> Alternate 7 Cost— $293,975 <br /> As indicated previously, staff is recommending that the Council approve the construction <br /> agreement with the inclusion of the three alternates thus creating the Oak Woodland <br /> area. <br /> All-Weather Fields <br /> All-weather turf fields generally consist of a base system, including base rock and <br /> drainage, the turf material and an infill material that is spread out on top of the turf. Some <br /> systems replace a portion of the base rock with a shock pad that is installed to improve <br /> field cushioning. For many years, the infill material has been primarily comprised of a <br /> combination of silica sand and crumb rubber (SBR). Silca sand is manufactured from <br /> crushed rock and helps firm up the infill. SBR is manufactured by grinding recycled tires, <br /> is used primarily to form an impact absorbing and stable base for players. The SBR also <br /> keep the artificial grass blades upright which creates a "natural" looking grass. While one <br /> could use either silica or SBR exclusively, they are most often combined to create a <br /> stable and very playable field surface. <br /> Page 5 of 9 <br />
