Mini-Grant#: 14-29 Valley Montessori School,Waste Prevention Program for Outdoor Areas,Livermore,East County, <br /> $2,740.35-Funds will be used to continue the reduction and recycling education at Valley Montessori School by purchasing color <br /> coordinated waste receptacles to include recycling,organics and waste. The receptacles will be placed in the(4)outdoor play spaces <br /> used by students from age 18 months through 8'"grade. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-30 Robertson Continuation High School,Hand Air Dryers,Fremont,West County,$3,000.00-Funds will be <br /> used to purchase air hand dryers for both the boys and girls restrooms replacing paper towels. This will provide students a green <br /> alternative to drying their hands with paper towels. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-31Hayward Area Recreation and Park District,Recycling Importance for Creeks and Watersheds' Class, <br /> Hayward,West County,$3,000.00-Funds will be used to develop ten(10)three hour classes that will educate ten(10)classes of <br /> fourth through sixth grade students about the importance of recycling all materials so not to pollute our creeks,bay and watersheds to <br /> protect all wildlife. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-32 Alameda County Office of Education,School Special Events Waste Reduction Guide,Hayward,West <br /> County,$3,000.00-Funds will be used to publish a best practices guide for waste reduction at student and parent organized events on <br /> school campuses. The guide will include planning tools for reducing waste before it starts as well as best practices for sorting waste at <br /> diversion stations after its generated. The grant will fund a portion of Roberta Miller's time at StopWaste.org to lead the effort,pay <br /> stipends to teachers,activities directors,and PTA representatives to help organize the guide and provide case studies. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-33 Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont,Four large compost bins—Two LEAF sites,Fremont,West <br /> County,$1,494.00- Funds will be used to construct two large three-part wooden compost bins for two sites, four bins total. Compost <br /> bins will be used to turn large amount of green waste into organic waste at both the California Nursery Historical Park and another site <br /> at Mission Blvd.and Mowry Avenue. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-34 All Ah We/All of Us,Oakland Worms on a Roll,Oakland,West County,$3,000.00-Funds will be used to <br /> enhance the current compost and vermiculture system within Oakland Unified School District(OUSD)with better tools,better <br /> housing for worms,and the introduction of a brood of chickens to produce manure to increase the nutrient value of the compost. <br /> Funds from this project will also go to create materials that teachers across OUSD can use to implement a similar system. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-35 Lorna Ports,Re-Storied,Berkeley,West County,$3,000.00-Funds will be used towards Re-Storied,a <br /> program designed to reuse materials to create pieces of art that are meaningful to the maker. The program has two main objectives: 1. <br /> Educate the participants as to how to reduce their waste generation, and how to reuse items that were before seen as waste;2.Use this <br /> concept of recycling and repurposing to tell a personal story, using reclaimed wood and other waste products in conjunction with <br /> photography and writing to create a story to share with the community. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-36 Bancroft Middle School,Silver Lining Campaign,San Leandro,West County,$1,600.00-Funds will be <br /> used to implement a new recycle program at Bancroft Middle School by generating new support from teachers and kitchen staff, <br /> introducing compost bins in the kitchen and starting dialogue with staff so they can be an example for students,and engaging and <br /> motivating students to become active participants and stewards of their environment and community. Funds will also be used to <br /> purchase items needed to implement this project, such as trash grabbers,work aprons,work gloves,mesh vests,a scale,bins and signs <br /> and pictures. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-37 Cycles of Change,Bret Harte Bike Club,Oakland,West County,$2,900.00-Funds will be used operate an <br /> after school"bike club"throughout East Oakland in partnership with over 20 school sites and community centers. The programs: 1. <br /> Teach youth ages 10-14 the principles and practices of reuse through the diversion,restoration and maintenance of bicycles, 100%of <br /> which are recovered from the waste stream;2. Using fleets of recycled bikes,guide youth ages 10-21 on local and regional journeys <br /> which connect them to the living world while promoting sustainable resource use and transportation; 3. Create leadership <br /> opportunities for youth ages 14-21 through mentoring,job training and paid employment in Cycles' shop,The Bikery. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 14-38 Cycles of Change,Roosevelt Bike Club,Oakland,West County,$2,900.00—Funds will be used operate an <br /> after school"bike club"throughout East Oakland in partnership with over 20 school sites and community centers.
