<br /> Break Camps for Low Income Oakland Students,Oakland,West County,$5,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to teach
<br /> approximately 150 East Oakland children the fundamentals and importance of sustainable urban gardening,including planning,
<br /> growing,harvesting,cooking and selling organic produce,waste reduction and healthy eating. The children will have access to build
<br /> on thew education through additional camps and ANV activities,and they will have the tools and opportunities to raise awareness and
<br /> inspire engagement among their families and larger community.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-60 Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda(CASA),Multifamily Composting—Technical
<br /> Assistance and Social Marketing,Alameda,West County,$14,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to pair CASA and Miss
<br /> Alameda with high school interns who will reach out to each multifamily complex in Alameda and assist them in implementing the
<br /> mandatory recycling and composting program. Work will be done with the Department of Public Works and Alameda County
<br /> Industries(the City's collection service provider)to ensure that each complex receives the appropriate level of recycling and
<br /> composting services. Work will also be done with the property managers to inform each of their tenants about the program. The
<br /> program will conduct workshops,provide support,trouble shoot,and go door to door within each complex to make sure that each
<br /> resident is aware of the program and knows how to participate.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-61 Food Shift,Expanding Shifting Surplus into Jobs Program,Oakland,West County,$20,817.40-Funds
<br /> from this grant will be used to allow Food Shift to learn from and build relationships with key stakeholders,create educational
<br /> outreach materials for clients, implement and analyze case studies,cultivate ajob training program with partner social service
<br /> agencies,and ultimately build a strong business plan and implementation strategy that can institutionalize the model throughout the
<br /> food industry.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-62 City of Dublin,Multi-Family Recycling,Dublin,East County,$7,500.00-Funds from this grant will be
<br /> used to increase diversion and the overall effectiveness of the Multi-Family Residential Recycling Program, including addressing the
<br /> specific needs of the most challenging sites. The goal is to provide resources to property managers and residents that will help
<br /> residents gain a better understanding of program rules,leading to increased participation and reduced contamination of recycling
<br /> loads. The City of Dublin will make and provide door hangers,instructional papers,and large signs explaining the recycling process
<br /> and where items go. Signage will be in English, Spanish and Chinese(Mandarin or Cantonese)
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-63 Friends of SCRAP Inc.(SCRAP),Business Outreach and Education about Reuse Possibilities,San
<br /> Francisco,West County,$22,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to create an Outreach Coordinator position that will train
<br /> and educate employees of at least 50 major corporations in the Bay Area as well as reconnect with at least 50 previous donors who
<br /> have lapsed in their donations,and by doing so divert over 36 tons of material from landfills. By increasing awareness of SCRAP and
<br /> other reuse organizations,we will drastically increase the residential and business tons that are diverted from the landfill. The
<br /> Outreach Coordinator will also work with various business sectors and publications in soliciting articles about SCRAP and other
<br /> organizations and businesses can donate unwanted supplies.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-64 Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs,Green Schools Initiative(GIS),Striving for Zero Waste
<br /> Across Berkeley Unified School District,Berkeley,West County,$41,550.00-Funds from this grant will be used to complete
<br /> infrastructure investments to facilitate increased diversion in all BUSD schools,build the capacity of BUSD Staff to manage waste
<br /> reduction efforts,continue to train and support Green Teams at all schools,and explore options for sustaining a culture and practice of
<br /> sustainability across BUSD.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-65 Clean Water Fund,Re Think Disposable,Oakland,West County,$20,000.00-Funds from this grant will
<br /> be used to educate the public about the impact of single-use food service ware on the environment,while at the same time promoting
<br /> waste prevention through alternatives to the throwaway items common in food service.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-66 Math Science Nucleus,Integrating Recycling Food Waste with Science in Schools,Fremont,West
<br /> County,$10,000,00-Funds from this grant will be used to set up a series of workshops(2 per year)to learn about the science of
<br /> composting using different methods,from natural(i.e. Tule Ponds)to in-vessel composting(Masonic Homes). Workshops would
<br /> include tours of Tri-Ced Recycling and Masonic Homes,as well as the tree operations at the California Nursery Historical Park.
<br /> Participants of the workshops will be chosen to be parameter models of composting food waste and incorporating into local projects
<br /> that require compost(restoration,Landscape maintenance). MSN staff will evaluate the different ways of integrating composting with
<br /> science on site.
<br /> Project Grant#: 14-67 Oakland Unified School District,Green Gloves Green Explorers Green Team,Oakland,West County,
<br /> $35,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to cater to the school site overall sustainability initiatives and efforts;continue
<br /> establishing a universal and standardized system that provides schools with an outline of policy,procedures,supplies and the support
<br /> personnel needed for an effective waste reduction and sorting program,continue developing and expanding districts Food Donation
<br /> Program;identify a green point person at each site;and establish the development of an increased environmental curriculum.
