NOTE: The above educational levels are not cumulative. The maximum educational incentive pay <br /> received by a Firefighter, Fire Engineer, or Fire Captain shall not exceed $100 per month. Effective <br /> August 1, 2009, employees covered under this Educational Incentive Pay Plan shall receive the greater <br /> of this plan or the amounts provided under Section 21.1 of this Memorandum of Understanding. <br /> Section 22. Probationary Period <br /> 22.1 Length of Probationary Period <br /> All original appointments to Fire Suppression positions shall be tentative and subject to a probationary <br /> period of eighteen (18) months actual service. The probationary period for Fire Prevention personnel <br /> shall be 12 months. <br /> Promotional appointments shall be subject to a probationary period of twelve (12) months service time. <br /> 22.2 Notification Requirements <br /> The Fire Chief shall notify a probationary employee forty-five (45) days prior to the expiration date of <br /> his/her probationary period. <br /> 22.3 Extension of Probationary Period <br /> The Fire Chief may extend the probationary period once for a period not to exceed ninety (90) days, in <br /> order to further evaluate the performance of the probationary employee. <br /> 22.4 Rejection of Probationary Employee - Promotional Appointment <br /> Any employee rejected during the probationary period following a promotional appointment or at the <br /> conclusion of the probationary period shall be reinstated to a position in the class from which he/she was <br /> promoted. <br /> During the first three (3) months of his/her probationary period, the employee shall have the option of <br /> returning to the position he/she previously held. <br /> Section 23. Promotions and-Demotion and Long-Term Acting Assignments <br /> A. Promotion <br /> Promotional or open-promotional examinations may be conducted whenever in the <br /> opinion of the Fire Chief, the needs of the service require. Only employees who meet the <br /> requirements set forth in the examination announcements may compete in promotional <br /> examinations. <br /> 34 <br />
