Vice-Mayor Pentin thanked her for her service, having already shared some personal comments. Councilmember Brown acknowledged and thanked Councilmember Cook-Kallio for their shared love of and help in retaining the historic homes and resources of Pleasanton while still allowing the improvements the city needs to move into the future. She said her Irvington High School students are privileged to have a teacher and mentor as committed to public service and government as she is. She thanked her for the personal sacrifices that come with being a Council member and wished her and her family the best in the next chapter of their lives. Councilmember Narum said that over the past eight years she has come to know Councilmember Cook-Kallio as a dedicated and successful teacher and public servant, and said she has no doubt that her calling as a public servant will continue with even more success. She congratulated her and her family, thanked her for a job well done and wished her the very best moving forward. OATHS OF OFFICE Alameda County Superior Court Judge Stephen Pulido administered the Oath of Office.to Mayor-elect Jerry Thome. City Clerk Karen Diaz administered the Oath of Office to Councilmember-elect Kathy Narum and Councilmember-elect Ame Olson. REMARKS Mayor Thorne thanked Judge Pulido for, once again, being willing to swear him into office. He thanked Matt Morrison for having the courage to put his name out there to serve and for running a sound campaign. He thanked the 13,151 voters whp voted for his re-election, committing to be deserving of their trust, and said he would strive to become the Mayor of choice for the 6.393 who voted for Mr. Morrison. He said he is humbled that a country boy like him, having grown up in a financially challenged family headed by a single widowed mother in western Tennessee, could find himself Mayor of the city reported by the U.S. News and World Report as the fourth best place to live in the county. He thanked his family, particularly his wife Sandy, for enduring the emotional roller coaster that accompanies each campaign. He also thanked all those who worked so hard on this and previous campaigns and to the members of the community who opened their homes to him. He thanked the community for allowing him the honor of serving this great city as its Mayor and said he was confident this equally great Council would accomplish many wonderful things over the next two years. Councilmember Kathy Narum said she is both humbled and grateful that the voters have given her another opportunity to continue the work she started when first elected to the Council some eighteen months ago. Against the backdrop of the city's robust and ever-growing economy, she shared her excitement over what she hopes to accomplish during this next term. She thanked her family for their ongoing support, several key members of her campaign for their tireless work, and the other candidates who pushed her to be the very best version of herself. She congratulated Councilmember Olson on his victory and said she looks forward to working together this next term. She also thanked those residents who demonstrated their support on the ballot and committed to gaining the support of those who did not by helping to preserve what is great about Pleasanton and supporting improvements where needed.
