THE CITY OF 11 <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PLEASANTON. <br />December 2, 2014 <br />Assistant City Manager <br />TITLE: CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE A MEMORANDUM OF <br />UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH PLEASANTON SPORTS GROUPS FOR A <br />BERNAL COMMUNITY PARK, PHASE 11 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN <br />The City Council approved funding plan for the Bernal Community Park, Phase II (Multi - <br />Purpose Lighted Sports Fields/ CIP No. 007065) (Bernal Park, Phase II) anticipates up <br />to $2 million in contributions from Pleasanton Sports groups to offset facility <br />construction costs and this commitment was critical in making the decision to advance <br />park design and development at this time. In view of this anticipated contribution, staff <br />has been meeting with the sports groups and has developed a Memorandum of <br />Understanding (MOU) that sets forth the parameters, commitments, and involvement <br />regarding a Bernal Park, Phase II fundraising campaign. The MOU has been approved <br />by the sports groups and staff is recommending City Council approval. Approval of the <br />MOU represents a critical step in establishing the fundraising campaign which would <br />begin at the time the City Council awards the contract for Bernal Park, Phase II <br />construction that is currently scheduled for February 2015. The fundraising program <br />would conclude within 90 -days after the park is open to the public. In addition, but <br />related to the MOU, this report includes a brief summary of the recommended City gift <br />acknowledgement and procedure document that is included as Attachment 3 to this <br />report. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve the Memorandum of Understanding for the Bernal Community Park, Phase II <br />(CIP 007065) Fundraising Campaign (Attachment 1) and related Gift Acknowledgement <br />Policy and Procedure document. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />There is no significant financial impact to the City for assisting with this program as it is <br />not directly involved in the fundraising campaign. However, the City will play a role in <br />processing donations and assisting with program oversight which involves City staff <br />time. In addition, the City has agreed to pay for a fundraising brochure that would be <br />used by the sports groups for their fundraising campaign. <br />
