Finance <br /> 6. Accepted the monthly disbursements and investment report for August 2014 <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Narum/Pentin to approve Consent Calendar as recommended and as <br /> amended. Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Brown, Cook-Kallio, Narum, Pentin, Mayor Thome <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 7. Proclamation proclaiming October Walk to School Month <br /> Councilmember Narum read the Proclamation proclaiming October as Walk to School Month into the <br /> record. <br /> Economic Development Specialist Lisa Adamos reported on upcoming events, which include a <br /> celebration of International Walk to School Day by all nine of the city's elementary schools, Pleasanton <br /> Middle School and Harvest Park and Foothill High Schools. Several events will be hosted by Supervisor <br /> Nate Miley, Pleasanton Unified School District Board President Jamie Hintzke and Vice-President Joan <br /> Laursen, and Mayor Thome. Each event will welcome participants as they arrive to school with hot <br /> chocolate, granola bars and wrist bands encouraging them to "Green Pleasanton <br /> 8. Proclamation proclaiming October 19-25 Freedom from Workplace Bullies Week <br /> Councilmember Narum read the Proclamation proclaiming October 19-25 as Freedom from Workplace <br /> Bullies Week into the record. <br /> LC Martinez explained that workplace bullying is defined as repeated health-harming mistreatment <br /> which interferes with the normal flow of work. Damages include harm to employee health and job loss <br /> and employers suffer lost productivity, low employee morale and heavy costs to their bottom line. She <br /> implored the Council to help raise awareness of this plight at the local level and to encourage state <br /> lawmakers to introduce the Healthy Workplace Bill. <br /> Linda Martinez thanked the Council for its recognition of the reality of workplace bullying, which caused <br /> her to resign from state position after 30 years on the job. She stressed that this is a very real situation <br /> that harms the personal and professional lives of many employees in both the public and private sector. <br /> Mayor Thorne reported that the US Conference of Mayors has taken up the fight against bullying in <br /> schools, which will hopefully filter down to combat this abuse in the workplace as well. <br /> 9. Public Comments <br /> Mike Conklin and Tom Daggett, Sentinels of Freedom, invited Pleasanton Sentinel Shawn Coe, his wife <br /> Samantha, and members of the Pleasanton team to join them in presenting Mayor Thorne and his wife <br /> Sandy with medals honoring their work with the foundation. <br /> Mayor Thorne said he and his wife are truly humbled by the honor and pleased to be part of a program <br /> that offers such a welcoming and supportive environment for those who have sacrificed so much for <br /> their country. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 8 October 7,2014 <br />
