Karen Diaz
Subject: FW: November 18 City Council Discussion of Design Review for First Ten Feet of Pre-1942
Homes
SUPPLEMEi4ThL MATERlAl.
Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
Mayor Thome and the Pleasanton City Council, —
I would strongly encourage the City to include a design review for the first ten feet of any pre-
1942 home that is under remodel or reconstruction. The majority of heritage homes in
Pleasanton are Queen Anne cottages, vernacular cottages and Mission Revival bungalows.
The first ten feet is the building. Without design reviews of the first ten feet a significant
amount of Pleasanton's heritage and history could be remodeled out of existence.
As a homeowner, restorationist, and regular contributor to two national magazines on the
subject of old house remodeling and preservation, I feel not only a resident's desire to
preserve our historic downtown neighborhood, but also a businessman's. Put simply, homes
and property are worth more in neighborhoods that have preserved their heritage buildings
and trees.
As I understand it, the Historic Preservation task force recommended the first ten foot design
review to the City and its planners. If so, Let me add my voice to theirs in encouraging you to
institute design review for the first ten feet of any pre-1942 home that is under remodel or
reconstruction.
John Ribovich,
Resident, 315 Rose Avenue
Co-Director, Classic House Restoration , L.L.C..
Click here to report this email as spam.
t
