(
8. Leverage the economic impact of the arts to increase downtown vitality,
reinforce tourism promotion and promote development of small creative
businesses. In Pleasanton there is a well-documented economic benefit from the
arts that takes the form of direct spending — increased visitation downtown, spending
in local businesses by arts attendees, revenues from arts related businesses and
employment.
9. Consider reconstituting the Civic Arts Commission as the Arts and Cultural
Commission to reflect the enhanced duties embodied in this plan and make
appropriate revisions to the Municipal Code. The municipal code sections that
relate to this Commission were adopted at a time when the primary duties of the
Commission related to oversight and implementation of the City's public art program.
Subsequent program development has expanded the scope of the Commission's
responsibilities and will further be expanded as this plan is implemented.
Funding and Implementation
Due to the overall scope of the improvements outlined in the Master Plan, it does not
include specific or overall cost estimates. However, it does identify funding options
which include sources such as the City General fund and capital budgets, earned
income through rentals and tickets sales from City cultural facilities, the City's Capital
Improvement Program, fundraising, public/private partnerships, grants, and
sponsorships for festivals and special events as determined consistent with priorities,
implementation and scheduling and availability.
CONCLUSION
Now that it is completed, the Cultural Plan will provide a framework for assisting the City
to direct resources toward facilities and programs, as well as successfully addressing
future community cultural and arts needs over the next five (5) to ten (10) years.
Submitted by: Approved y:
j9erc-- I'WeirteS
Susan Andrade-Wax Nelson Fialho
Director of Community Services City Manager
Attachment:
1.
