Councilmember Brown requested confirmation that pylon signage is not a part of this application. <br /> Ms. Bonn clarified that the applicant would have an opportunity to incorporate freeway oriented signage <br /> into the pylon sign approved as part of the CarMax project. Additional signage would require a Specific <br /> Plan amendment. <br /> Mayor Thorne opened the public hearing. <br /> Don Kahler read a statement expressing concerns over the safety of direct access from El Charro Road <br /> to the Staples Ranch site. <br /> Mayor Thorne closed the public hearing. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Pentin/Narum to Introduce and waive first reading of Ordinance No. <br /> 2107 approving a PUD Development Plan for the construction of an automobile dealership <br /> consisting of an approximately 31,792 sq. ft. with a 2,175 sq. ft. service canopy and 1,250 sq. ft. <br /> car wash, and related site improvements on the Auto Mall site at Staples Ranch. Motion carried <br /> by the following vote: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Brown, Cook-Kallio, Narum, Pentin, Mayor Thorne <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL <br /> Mayor Thorne reported that his first step in attempted to extend the RHNA cycle as described earlier <br /> would be to draft a letter to state legislators and ABAG staff. The Council unanimously agreed to join <br /> him in signing the letter. <br /> Councilmember Cook-Kallio requested and received majority support from the council to direct staff to <br /> place the matter of hobby beekeeping in residential zones on the Council's Work Plan and to refer the <br /> matter to the Planning Commission for consideration. She included further direction that they explore <br /> ordinances similar to that adopted by the city of San Francisco, which allows for removal of any hives <br /> that may be deemed to be a nuisance. <br /> COUNCIL REPORTS - None <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> Mayor Thorne read the following statement: "Now we would like to observe the recent passing on <br /> August 31st of Orville Nightingale, a Pleasanton resident of Ridge View Commons who would have <br /> celebrated his 110th birthday next month. Mr. Nightingale lived an action packed life that included <br /> picking apples and playing cards with Harry Truman, dancing with Ginger Rogers before she became <br /> a star, and working on the Alaskan pipeline. Mr. Nightingale was also very active in the Pleasanton <br /> community and served as a block captain and was one of the original twenty DeMolay members in our <br /> city. We send our condolences to his friends and family on the loss of Mr. Nightingale. <br /> There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:36 p.m. The Council extended a <br /> tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military.
