PL£ASANTON. <br />Economic Vitality <br />Committee <br />Minutes <br />August 21, 2014 <br />7:30 a.m. <br />Remillard Conference Center <br />3333 Busch Road <br />CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS <br />Meeting called to order at 7:36 am. Committee members present and introduced were Council <br />member Kathy Narum, Janice Sangster - Phalen, Scott Raty, Olivia Sanwong- Handerson, <br />Bryan Bowers, James Paxson, Angel Moore, Kristen Kuse and Richard Gross. Committee <br />members not in attendance were Sima Yazdani, Dean Schenone, Jo Anne Mittelman, Al <br />Lombardo, Jay Galvin, Carrie Williams, Jamie Hintzke, Glen Sparks, Kareen Knowles and <br />Barbara Steinfeld. City staff present was Economic Development Director Pamela Ott, <br />Community Development Director Brian Dolan, Planning Manager Adam Weinstein and <br />Associate Planner Jennifer Wallis. <br />AGENDA AMENDMENTS <br />There were no agenda amendments. <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br />Public Comment <br />No comments were made. <br />WORK SESSION <br />Update on Housing Element vis-a -vis City's Economic Development Strategic Plan <br />Community Development Director Brian Dolan and Planning Manager Adam Weinstein made <br />a presentation (attached) on the Housing Element update and solicited feedback from the EVC <br />on several questions: <br />1. To what extent should City policies be adjusted to leverage private sector investment in <br />housing production? <br />2. How can collaboration between the city and the private sector occur to more effectively <br />promote housing development? <br />3. How can the need for workforce housing be more effectively marketing to the <br />community? <br />Comments from the EVC included: <br />• Charts used in public presentations about the number of approved residential units <br />should show the number of those units that are senior housing units or part of a transit - <br />oriented development. Charts should also show the number of issued building permits. <br />• It would be beneficial to articulate the kinds of jobs that will be filled by the residents that <br />will occupy the higher density units and how they contribute to the community <br />o Consider use of 3D renderings and video <br />
