SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
Date: July 12, 2014 After Distribution of Packet
From: Friends of the Alviso Adobe* Date
To: Mayor and City Council Members
cc: City Manager; Assistant City Manager
Subject:Alviso Adobe Community Park Report, Item #20,July 15, 2014 Agenda
Friends of the Alviso Adobe (FAA) would like to acknowledge and thank you for placing the
Adobe Park Visioning Project in your 2013-14 Work plan. We agree with staff the need to
develop both a short-term and long-term plan for the Park. We appreciate your past interest
and urge your continued support of this unique and valuable community resource.
We have reviewed the staff report and wish to provide the following input:
Recommendation#1 addresses the formation of a nine member Alviso Adobe Task Force. FAA
suggests forming a Task Force comprised of 11 members with the following changes, which we
believe will strengthen the Task Force. We suggest replacing the representative from the Civic
Arts with a representative from the Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Committee. Such an exchange
assures discussions regarding trails and trail access includes user perspectives. We support one
additional at-large member in order to attempt to have at least two representatives from the
five neighborhoods surrounding the properties. We respectfully request FAA be provided two
seats on the task force. Our group is diverse and we would like the two major components of
our group to be represented, docents and program developers, providing materials and
information for the educational programs. Finally, we believe it is inappropriate to have a
regional agency staff member participating as a voting member. We fully support EBRPD's
participation as a resource. (This allows EB to assign specific staff(or none) to a meeting,
depending on topic)
FAA Recommended Task Force- 11 members:
One Park and Recreation Commissioner
One Youth Commissioner
One Planning Commissioner
One Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Committee member
Two Friends of the Alviso Adobe (1 docent, 1 program developer)
One Teacher
One Museum on Main
3 Community Members at Large (Note: emphasis should be placed on
reserving 2 of the 3 seats for surrounding neighborhood representation)
(East Bay Regional Park District—non-voting resource member)
