THE CITY OF 1 8 <br /> pL£ASANTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> July 15, 2014 <br /> Community Services Department <br /> TITLE CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE SCHEMATIC PARK PLAN FOR MAIN <br /> STREET GREEN AND THE RENAMING OF THE PARK TO ROTARY <br /> PARK <br /> SUMMARY <br /> In 2013, representatives from Pleasanton's three Rotary clubs (Rotary Club of <br /> Pleasanton, Rotary Club of Pleasanton North and the Tri-Valley Evening Rotary Club) <br /> approached the City with an idea and a donation to commemorate Rotary's 50 <br /> Anniversary in Pleasanton which will occur in May 2015. Included in those discussions <br /> were plans to renovate Main Street Green including the installation of a clock tower and <br /> the possible renaming of the park site or entrance plaza in recognition of Rotary's many <br /> contributions to the community. <br /> Since then, the City has embarked on the design and renovation process of Main Street <br /> Green and in partnership with Rotary, a clock tower has been selected that would be <br /> funded by the Rotary Clubs of Pleasanton and installed by the City as part of the park. <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. That the City Council approve the Schematic Park Plan for Main Street Green <br /> with the amendments identified in this report. <br /> 2. Approve the renaming of Main Street Green to Rotary Park. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the Schematic Park Plan for Main Street Green (Attachment)), including <br /> the inclusion amendments made by the Parks and Recreation Commission as <br /> outlined in this report. <br /> 2. Consider the request to rename Main Street Green to Rotary Park or one of the <br /> alternative names as detailed in this report. <br /> 3. Direct staff to prepare a construction schedule and funding plan for the park that <br /> assures the park's plaza area would be completed and the clock tower installed <br /> by May 1, 2015 to coincide with the Rotary Club's 50th anniversary. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no cost associated with accepting the Schematic Park Plan or renaming the <br /> park. However, based upon the preliminary cost opinion prepared by the City's <br /> landscape architectural consultant, it is anticipated that improving the park to conform to <br /> the Schematic Park Plan will cost approximately $420,000. The Clock Tower, proposed <br /> for Park's plaza will be acquired through a generous donation (approximately $25,000) <br /> from the Rotary Clubs of Pleasanton. <br />
