BACKGROUND <br /> On March 5, 2013, the City Council awarded the construction contract to Carone and <br /> Company, in the amount of$1,025,523.40, and also authorized the Community <br /> Development Manager to approve up to $102,550 for project change orders. <br /> A summary of the improvements constructed as part of the intersection improvement <br /> contract is as follows: <br /> • Construction of a Santa Rita Road northbound dedicated right turn lane onto <br /> Stoneridge Drive. <br /> . Conversion of an existing eastbound curb lane on Stoneridge Drive to a free right <br /> turn lane onto southbound Santa Rita Road, and conversion of the second <br /> existing right turn lane to a Stoneridge Drive eastbound thru lane. <br /> . Installation of new intersection traffic signals and signage. <br /> . Creation of a bus stop pull out on Santa Rita Road just south of Stoneridge Drive <br /> for southbound buses. <br /> . Installation of Iron Horse Trail improvements on the east side of Santa Rita Road <br /> to connect to the trail improvement project currently being undertaken by the <br /> East Bay Regional Parks District and the existing Iron Horse Trail entryway at <br /> Santa Rita Road. <br /> . Installation of sidewalks, ramps and improvements to assure the intersection is <br /> compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). <br /> • Adjustments to landscaping and median islands. <br /> . Addition of bike lanes on north and southbound Santa Rita Road <br /> • Preservation of the existing "Hacienda Business Park" monument sign and <br /> Redwood trees on the south/east corner of Stoneridge Drive. <br /> In addition to the completed contract work, a considerable amount of construction was <br /> completed prior to this project. The work included acquisition of easements and property <br /> to facilitate the free turn lanes, grading, and the relocation of utilities by PG&E. Phase I <br /> construction work was performed by Fanfa, Inc, to grade the free right turn area to <br /> provide an area for utilities to be relocated. <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br />
