BACKGROUND On March 5, 2013, the City Council awarded the construction contract to Carone and Company, in the amount of$1,025,523.40, and also authorized the Community Development Manager to approve up to $102,550 for project change orders. A summary of the improvements constructed as part of the intersection improvement contract is as follows: • Construction of a Santa Rita Road northbound dedicated right turn lane onto Stoneridge Drive. . Conversion of an existing eastbound curb lane on Stoneridge Drive to a free right turn lane onto southbound Santa Rita Road, and conversion of the second existing right turn lane to a Stoneridge Drive eastbound thru lane. . Installation of new intersection traffic signals and signage. . Creation of a bus stop pull out on Santa Rita Road just south of Stoneridge Drive for southbound buses. . Installation of Iron Horse Trail improvements on the east side of Santa Rita Road to connect to the trail improvement project currently being undertaken by the East Bay Regional Parks District and the existing Iron Horse Trail entryway at Santa Rita Road. . Installation of sidewalks, ramps and improvements to assure the intersection is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). • Adjustments to landscaping and median islands. . Addition of bike lanes on north and southbound Santa Rita Road • Preservation of the existing "Hacienda Business Park" monument sign and Redwood trees on the south/east corner of Stoneridge Drive. In addition to the completed contract work, a considerable amount of construction was completed prior to this project. The work included acquisition of easements and property to facilitate the free turn lanes, grading, and the relocation of utilities by PG&E. Phase I construction work was performed by Fanfa, Inc, to grade the free right turn area to provide an area for utilities to be relocated. Page 2 of 3
