1 <br /> THE CITY OF 6 <br /> L€AS�4NTO T CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> p <br /> June 3, 2014 <br /> Community Services <br /> TITLE: REQUEST TO RENAME THE PLEASANTON SPORTS AND <br /> RECREATION COMMUNITY PARK TO THE KEN MERCER SPORTS <br /> PARK <br /> SUMMARY <br /> At the regular meeting of the City Council on February 4, 2014, the Council requested <br /> that the Parks and Recreation Commission consider the request to rename the <br /> Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Community Park after the late, Mayor Ken Mercer. <br /> On May 8, 2014, the Parks and Recreation Commission conducted a public meeting to <br /> consider the request to rename the Pleasanton Spoils and Recreation Community Park <br /> to the Ken Mercer Sports Park, which was approved on a 4-1 vote (Hattie). <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the request to rename the Pleasanton Sports and <br /> Recreation Community Park to the Ken Mercer Sports Park and adopt a resolution <br /> confirming its approval of the name change. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council review and consider the recommendation of the Parks and <br /> Recreation Commission and provide direction. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The costs associated with the potential name change would be for the most part, path <br /> related signage. The current park signage includes; one (1) large concrete sign at the <br /> entrance; the "Memorial Rock', and four(4)fiberglass "field location/identification" signs. <br /> The estimated cost of replacing the signs utilizing outside vendors would be in the <br /> $11,000 - $15,000 range. Replacement signage would be funded through the Park <br /> Renovation Fund. <br />
