BACKGROUND <br /> On an annual basis, the City has two projects designed to maintain the City's roadway <br /> infrastructure. One of these projects is the resurfacing of various roadways by <br /> overlaying existing pavement with a new layer of asphalt concrete, while the other <br /> project is slurry sealing a different set of roadways as preventative maintenance. <br /> The street resurfacing component includes installing a new layer of asphalt concrete <br /> over the existing pavement, repairing pavement distressed areas, crack sealing, <br /> adjusting appurtenances to grade, installing pavement markers, and installing traffic <br /> detector loops. The roadway preventative maintenance component includes preparatory <br /> work for the upcoming slurry seal project (CIP No. 135004). The preventative work will <br /> include sealing pavement cracks and repairing pavement distressed areas. This <br /> preparatory work is generally required prior to the start of the slurry sealing operation <br /> and is included under the project in order to realize cost savings and for optimum <br /> results.
