This email
acknowledges receipt of your email to the City Council, the City Manager, and the City Attorney.
Thank you again for your interest in the City of Pleasanton.
Joanne Hall
Public Information Officer
From: Laura Mccollum
Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2014 1:03 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: Please do NOT ban vaping!!
Jerry Thorne,Mayor,
Jerry Pentin,Vice-Mayor,
Karla Brown,Council Member,
Cheryl Cook-Kallio, Council Member,
Kathy Narum,Council Member,
I am emailing you to PLEASE do NOT treat vaping like smoking. I am a California native, yes, one of
the very few, and I have seen our great state become one with the most militant laws with no
common sense. I would like to refer to the study done by Dr Igor Burstyn from Drexel University of
Public Health done in 2013, that states there was NO health risk for the non-vaper being exposed to
second-hand vape.
I would also like you to think about the 3,000 carcinogens and the tar associated with smoking and
the ZERO associated with vaping. As an ex-smoker, putting my lungs near a smoker would do more
harm to me personally than any of my vaping would do to a non-vaper and/or smoker.
I would also like for you to look up Healthy People 2020 in the Tobacco area. According to them, IF
you were to pass this, it would be a direct violation of Healthy People 2020. How you ask? You
would essentially be putting non-smokers (vapers) and put their lives at risk for second-hand smoke
exposure. I ask you, are you prepared to do this?
Please consider exactly what you are proposing and do your own research.
Thank you for your time!
Laura McCollum
1
