BACKGROUND
On October 15, 2013, City Council awarded the construction contract to the lowest
responsible bidder, Vintage Contractors, Inc., in the amount of $148,800. The City
Council also authorized a construction contingency of $16,200 to address unanticipated
project conditions. The total project budget was $165,000.
DISCUSSION
The project restored the original five tennis courts that were constructed in 1987 as part
of the first phase of the Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park. With the original
courts more than 25 years old, significant cracking had begun to occur to the point
where simple "crack repair" was no longer feasible and a more extensive reconstruction
and resurfacing was necessary. The work has returned the court surfaces on the five
courts to an "as new" condition, which should extend their life for an additional 20 years
or more.
Total project expenditures are $149,037, with no change orders issued. A total of
$15,963 remains in the CIP project budget. Staff recommends that a portion of this
balance be used to fund the installation of new benches and shade structures for all ten
courts at the facility. This improvement has long been desired by staff and the public. It
is recommended that the remaining balance be returned to Parks Capital Improvement
Fund.
All of the contract work has been completed to the City's satisfaction. This project is
now complete and ready for City Council acceptance.
Submitted bby: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
-Daniel Smith Emily Wa er Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations Director of Finance City Manager
Services
Attachment:
1.
