BACKGROUND
The City Council has endorsed moving toward the goal of creating a viable local
recycled water distribution system that takes advantage of recycled water
available through the City of Livermore, DERWA, and the DSRSD. Because
recycled water is accessible at the DSRSD waste water treatment plant directly
across from Val Vista Park, staff has identified this park as a good candidate for
the use of recycled water that will both take advantage of the availability of the
nearby recycled water source and help the City its long term water conservation
goals. By installing a relatively short section of pipeline, recycled water was
brought across the bridge at the Alamo Canal to the park where it was connected
to the park's water infrastructure. As a result of this project, the City will be able
to supply recycled water into the park under the DSRSD Recycled Water permit
until the City attains its own permit.
As part of the planning for this project, staff determined that significant
efficiencies could be realized by incorporating it into the DSRSD plant
improvement project. Further, as mentioned above, this effort allows the City to
provide the park with recycled water under DSRSD Recycled Water Permit which
will accelerate the City's recycled water effort. Overall, staff anticipates that this
project will replace approximately 32,000,000 gallons of potable water annually
with recycled water.
The original project estimate for the work was $130,000 and the final cost of
$118,698 is $11,302 under this estimate. Staff has approved the completed work
and it meets all permitting requirements.
Sub ' b Fiscal Review: Approved by:
Daniel ith Emily agner Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations Services Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
