<br /> Funds from this grant will be used to cover registration fees for 40 attendees to participate in the Nature of Materials: B course. The
<br /> Nature of Materials:B(NatMat B)course will cover the recycling of other non-organic materials among the Twelve Master
<br /> Categories which will include textiles,ceramics,soils,chemicals,and reusable goods.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-43 Cycles of Change,Bret Harte Bike Club,Oakland,West County,$2,900.00-Funds from this grant will be
<br /> used to provide reuse education and leadership training opportunities for 50 youth ages 10-14 of low-income families residing in East
<br /> Oakland. After completing a 12 week after-school training program,participants carry out a promotional event which highlights reuse
<br /> practices and provides reuse services(bike donation/recycling,repair classes,and maintenance)for the school community. Two
<br /> training programs and two community events will take place during the 2013-2014 school year.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-44 Alameda County Child Care Planning Council,Greening Preschools Project,Oakland,West County,
<br /> $2,060-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase recycling containers to supplement a new 2013-2014 StopWaste grant which
<br /> will continue the work of the Greening Preschools Program.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-45 Alameda Point Collaborative,APC Recycling Superheroes,Alameda,West County,$3,000.00-Funds
<br /> from this grant will be used to purchase recycling bins, classroom outreach materials,staff time,field trips and to host a six week
<br /> summer program to engage youth,ages 4- 18,in positive,constructive and educational activities. Curriculum and activities for the
<br /> summer program are based on a central theme and are chosen to help meet a need within the community. This year's summer
<br /> program will culminate in a community-wide clean-up day.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-46 Castro Valley Sanitary District,CVSan Student Environmental Leader Scholarship Pilot,Castro Valley,
<br /> West County,$2,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to pilot an environmental leadership scholarship program for high
<br /> school age students in Castro Valley to take student participation to the next level. As an incentive to mobilize fellow peers,CVSan
<br /> will offer high school students in Castro Valley 4 scholarships at$500.00 each.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-47 Bay Area Green Tours,Zero Waste Educational Tour,Berkeley,West County,$2,850.00-Funds from this
<br /> grant will be used to send 50 employees and affiliates on a full day Zero Waste educational tour in the fall of 2013 or the spring of
<br /> 2014.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-48 Hearst Elementary School,Recycling Education Display Case,Pleasanton,East County,$3,000.00-Funds
<br /> from this grant will be used to purchase the necessary materials needed to build a display case to demonstrate the four R's: reducing,
<br /> reusing,recycling and rotting. This project will encourage the students,parents,teachers,administrators and visitors to follow the
<br /> four R's through materials presented in the display case.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 13-49 Community Housing Partnership,Recycling&Environmental Awareness Program(REAP),San
<br /> Francisco,West County,$1,830.00-Funds from this grant will be used to further develop REAP which provides environmental
<br /> education and engagement opportunities for formerly homeless adults in San Francisco. Through a ten-week internship program,
<br /> short-term employment,and day-long trips,REAP educates and engages participants and diverts over 1,000 tons of waste per year.
<br /> REAP created environmental leaders who lead waste diversion and community outreach at supportive housing buildings in San
<br /> Francisco.
<br /> The total 2013 Expenditure Plan budget of$150,000 for Mini-Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to
<br /> carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of$116,022.34 in Mini-Grants
<br /> was approved.
<br /> Project Grants
<br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 18 Project Grants to the following projects:
<br /> Project Grant#: 13-50 Homer Junior High School,Waste less Restrooms,Fremont,West County,$7,046.00-Funds from this
<br /> grant will be used to purchase(10)Xlerator Series Hand Dryers,and(6)World Dryer Model A Series. Paper towels and paper towel
<br /> dispensers will be removed from school bathrooms and replaced with electric hand dryers.
<br /> Project Grants#: 13-51 San Francisco Department of the Environment,Food to Flowers!,San Francisco,West County,
<br /> $10,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to increase diversion in the San Francisco Unified School District(SFUSD)and San
<br /> Francisco's private schools by expanding our School Education program. In conjunction with a variety of educational program
<br /> offerings,we will help schools develop an infrastructure to increase waste diversion and provide the resources needed to sustain those
<br /> programs. This project will work in partnership with Recology; San Francisco's permitted waste and recycling hauler,as well as
<br /> SFUSD and private schools.
