THE CITY OF 1 0 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> LASSITOC <br /> December 17, 2013 <br /> Police <br /> TITLE: APPROVE SPECIAL EVENT STREET CLOSURES FOR CALENDAR <br /> YEAR 2014 <br /> SUMMARY: <br /> The Pleasanton Municipal Code requires City Council approval of parades and special <br /> events which necessitate the temporary closure of City streets and temporary parking <br /> restrictions. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Approve the street closures for the 2014 Special Events as detailed in Attachment 1. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT: <br /> This information is being provided to give the City Council and the citizens of <br /> Pleasanton an estimate of personnel costs connected to street closures in 2014. <br /> It is estimated the Police Department will expend approximately 1,218 hours on street <br /> closures relating to twenty-four special events this year. The twenty-four events for <br /> 2014 represent an eighteen percent decrease from the number of events that were held <br /> in 2013. The Streets Department estimates approximately 415 hours to prepare for, set <br /> up, and after the event, collect barriers, cones and barricades for the special events <br /> listed in this staff report. <br /> After calculating the Police personnel costs at an overtime rate, and the Streets <br /> Department personnel costs at regular rate, associated with 2014 special events, the <br /> cost of street closures associated with the events report are approximately $162,019.00 <br /> ($132,969.00 Police Department; $29,050.00 Streets Department). <br />
