THE CITY OF 1 0 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT LASSITOC December 17, 2013 Police TITLE: APPROVE SPECIAL EVENT STREET CLOSURES FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2014 SUMMARY: The Pleasanton Municipal Code requires City Council approval of parades and special events which necessitate the temporary closure of City streets and temporary parking restrictions. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the street closures for the 2014 Special Events as detailed in Attachment 1. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: This information is being provided to give the City Council and the citizens of Pleasanton an estimate of personnel costs connected to street closures in 2014. It is estimated the Police Department will expend approximately 1,218 hours on street closures relating to twenty-four special events this year. The twenty-four events for 2014 represent an eighteen percent decrease from the number of events that were held in 2013. The Streets Department estimates approximately 415 hours to prepare for, set up, and after the event, collect barriers, cones and barricades for the special events listed in this staff report. After calculating the Police personnel costs at an overtime rate, and the Streets Department personnel costs at regular rate, associated with 2014 special events, the cost of street closures associated with the events report are approximately $162,019.00 ($132,969.00 Police Department; $29,050.00 Streets Department).
