Motion <br /> passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Cook-Kallio, Narum, Pentin, Mayor Thorne <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 8. Presentation of a Proclamation proclaiming November 30, 2013 as Small Business Saturday <br /> Economic Development Director Ott stated that Pleasanton is truly a community of small and medium <br /> sized businesses, with fewer than 60 of its 5,000 businesses having more than 100 employees. She <br /> said Smalll Business Saturday is a wonderful opportunity to come out and support local businesses. <br /> Vice-Mayor Cook-Kallio read the Proclamation proclaiming November 30, 2013 as Small Business <br /> Saturday into the record. <br /> Laura Olson, Pleasanton Downtown Association Director, thanked the Council for recognizing the <br /> importance of small businesses in the community. She noted there are over 550 small businesses in <br /> the downtown alone and another 1,500 throughout the general community. <br /> James Paxson, Hacienda Business Park, thanked the Council for the recognition and noted that <br /> Hacienda is home to another 550 small businesses. <br /> Scott Raty, Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber has over 800 members throughout town, most of <br /> whom employ fewer than 10 employees each. <br /> 9. Recognition of out-going Commission and Committee Members <br /> Mayor Thorne recognized the following out-going Commission and Committee Members for their <br /> service to the city: Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Committee — Jamie Carolo, William Rose, and Mike <br /> Sedlak; Economic Vitality Committee— Nancy Allen; Youth Commission —Jackson Fialho. <br /> 10. Oaths of Office to Committee and Commission Members <br /> Mayor Thorne introduced the following incoming Committee and Commission members: Bicycle, <br /> Pedestrian and Trails Committee — Tom Hall, Kriti Jain, Donald Johnston, Steven McGinnis, and <br /> Richard Romine; Civic Arts Commission — Sandra Jellison and John Steenman; Economic Vitality <br /> Committee — Albert Lombardo; Committee on Energy and the Environment — Steve Dennis, Roger <br /> Harris and Timothy Shurtleff; Housing Commission — Colleen Lopez; Planning Commission — Greg <br /> O'Connor; Youth Commission — Russell Ambrosiewicz and Saira Grewal. <br /> The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 6 November 19, 2013 <br />
