Mr. Brozosky asked about removal of the culverts in option 1.
Mr. Wilson replied the removal would not occur in phase I; a small wooden bridge would
be in place.
Ms. McGovern commented on the invasive plants in view A; she does not support
removal of the invasive plants in other areas.
Mr. Wilson noted that this issue would be addressed with the contractor.
Ms. McGovern asked if staff could assist in the identification of invasive plants. Park
maintenance staff would be maintaining the creek in the future.
Mr. Wilson stated that it is recommended to hire a contract maintenance firm for the first
five years.
Ms. McGovern asked about the steel versus wooden bridges.
Mr. Wilson responded that steel is recommended primarily due to the vehicle loads.
Mc. McGovem asked about the contingency balance remaining in the CIP fund, and if
any mature trees could be saved.
Mr. Wilson verified the CIP balance and that mature trees would not be removed.
Ms. McGovem asked about replacing the railings on bridge and if trash receptacles and
dog waste bags could be included.
Mr. Wilson noted that the railings will be changed; receptacles and waste bags are not
included in the scope of this project.
Mr. Sullivan commented on the costs associated with vehicle bridges.
Mr. Wilson explained the use of the bridges by maintenance vehicles and clarified the
need for the crossings.
Mr. Sullivan stated that although the project is considered over-budget, that conclusion is
based on engineering estimates, not change orders.
Mr. Wilson stated that the project should be considered under-funded, rather than over
budget. Specific costs will be known after the bid process. The project scope has not changed
but there are not sufficient funds allocated so far for the project.
Mr. Thorne asked if the objective of the project had changed over time.
Mr. Wilson explained that it had changed from a maintenance project to a restoration
project; elements have been added, but the overall project goal has not changed.
Mayor Hosterman invited public comments.
Pleasanton City Council 15 05/16/06
Minutes
