<br />Ordinance No. 863 <br /> <br />(a) Ferrous water piping shall have protective <br />coating of an approved type, machine applied <br />and conforming to recognized standards. <br />Field wrapping or coating may be permitted <br />by the Administrative Authority if equivalent <br />protection is provided. Zinc coating <br />(Galvanizing) shall not be deemed adequate <br />protection for piping or fittings. <br />(b) Copper tubing shall be installed without <br />joints where possible. Where joints are <br />permitted, they shall be silver brazed or <br />equal and fittings shall be wrought copper.' <br /> <br />b. Additions. <br /> <br />1. Subsections g, h, and i are hereby added to <br />Section 1101 to read as follows: <br />'(g) Every building sewer installed shall have <br />a backflow protection device installed in the <br />sewer lateral serving that individual building. <br />The backflow protection device may consist of <br />either an atmospheric valve or backwater valve <br />installation as approved by the Building Inspector. <br />(h) Where a building sewer is already installed <br />and the building served thereby is so situated <br />that the lowest drain opening in the building is <br />less than two (2') feet above the rim of the <br />nearest upstream manhole, a backflow protection <br />device consisting of either an atmospheric relief <br />valve or a backwater valve installation, as <br />approved by the Building Inspector, shall be <br />installed. <br />(i) Subsections (g) and (h) may be waived when, <br />in the opinion of the Building Inspector, such <br />installation is unnecessary for the protection, <br />health and safety requirements of this Chapter.' <br /> <br />2. Subsection (d) is hereby added to Section <br />1310 to read as follows: <br />'(d) All water heaters shall be securely anchored <br />to the floor or wall in a manner acceptable to <br />the Administrative Authority to resist seismic <br />forces.' <br /> <br />Section 3. Adoption of the 1976 Edition of the Uniform Mechanical <br />Code by Reference. The Uniform Mechanical Code, 1976 Edition, <br />published by the International Association of Plumbing and <br />Mechanical Officials and the International Conference of <br />Building Officials is adopted by reference. There are three (3) <br />copies of this Uniform Code on file in the office of the City <br />Clerk for use by the public.
