BACKGROUND
The City of Pleasanton provides a multitude of services to the public, examples of which
include police and fire response, water and sewer, library services ;and recreational
opportunities.
In 1995, 2001 and again in 2007 the City hired a firm to survey the community on the
satisfaction with these services and facilities, to determine what facilities and services
were lacking in the community and what facilities and services were of a high priority to
the community in the future. This information was helpful to the City Council and staff in
formulating the annual operating budget, the capital improvement program, and other
long range planning efforts.
The City hired Fairbank, Maslin, Maulin, Metz & Associates (FM3) to conduct the prior
community satisfaction surveys on behalf of the City. In order to improve the quality of
comparisons between surveys, staff recommends hiring the same firm to repeat and
expand the survey.
DISCUSSION
City staff will work with FM3 to develop the questions for the survey. The questions will
be drafted to determine public opinion regarding city services and to develop a
"baseline" to determine how these services compare with the results from the 1995,
2001 and 2007 community satisfaction surveys. The results will also compliment the
City's efforts to develop and finalize annual performance measures for City Council
review later this year.
The community satisfaction survey will be conducted in the fall of •his year with a
sampling of 600-700 Pleasanton residents being interviewed. Citizen evaluations of city
services and priorities for improvements will be assessed.
As with prior community satisfaction surveys, staff intends to review the survey results
full and modify staff goals or service delivery procedures in response. 1 he results of the
survey will be shared publically with the City Council and community later this calendar
year.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
-44 /LL
•
Julie Farnsworth Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Director of Library Services Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
