BACKGROUND
The Sidewalk Maintenance project is an annual City program. The City's Streets
Division identifies sidewalk areas that are potential tripping hazards. The City of
Pleasanton's Engineering Division considers safety improvement, priority, proximity to
other locations requiring work, scheduling of other street projects, and available budget
when prioritizing locations to be improved each year. If there are missing or non-
functional ramps adjacent to the sidewalk repair locations, the City installs ADA
(Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant ramps. Damaged curb and gutter are also
replaced adjacent to the sidewalk repair area for better flow.
This project consisted of removing and replacing 7,990 SF of sidewalk that presented
potential tripping hazards and 70 LF of curb and gutter that had cracks and drainage
problems, as well as the installation of 12 new intersection ramps for ADA accessibility
near sidewalk repairs. This year's improvements took place near Civic Park and the
surrounding areas, Hansen Drive, Hopyard Road between Valley Avenue and Hansen
Drive, and Division Street near Del Valle Parkway.
On November 20, 2012, Pleasanton's City Council awarded the contract to the lowest
responsible bidder, Nor-Cal Concrete Company, Inc., in the amount of $95,301.50.
Council authorized the Director of Community Development to approve change orders
up to the project contingency amount of $14,475. The project has since been
completed and is ready for acceptance.
Budget
Funding for the project was provided in the Annual Sidewalk Maintenance Project, CIP
115012. Change orders totaling $7,626.62 were due to additional curb and gutter
replacement for the slurry seal project and increased sidewalk repair area as requested
by the Streets Maintenance Division. In order to fully fund this project, $10,000 was
transferred from CIP No. 125012; staff is therefore recommending the return of the
project balance ($6,691) to CIP No. 125012. A summary of the project's funding
sources and expenditures is presented in Attachment 1.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve 1by:
Int laire-4/ /t4/
rian Dolan Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
