Box 520
Pleasanton,CA 94566
Dear City Council,Task Force Members, and Planning Department:
I write on behalf of Rhodes&Jamieson, LLC regarding the East Pleasanton Specific Plan
planning process presently underway. At present, the Task Force is considering several alternative
proposals for the EPSP area, and the City Council is scheduled to provide direction on the
alternatives at its June 18 meeting.
Rhodes&Jamieson affiliated companies own about 1,000 acres of land adjacent to and
east/southeast of the EPSP area. Most of that land has been mined,is presently being mined, or is
permitted to be mined in the future, for construction aggregate materials. As recognized in the City
of Pleasanton's July 2012 Preliminary Background Report for the EPSP:
The approximately 1,000-acre East Pleasanton Specific Plan(EPSP)
area(Figure 1)is part of a considerably larger area commonly kno'rvn
as the Livermore-Amador Valley Quarry Lands. The Quarry Lands
contain the largest single concentration of sand and gravel deposits in
the Bay Area. This land has long been of special importance because
of the value of its mineral deposits to the region's economy, the
environmental impacts created by extracting and transporting sand
and gravel, and the manner in which excavated land is reclaimed for
future use.
Los Angeles I Orange County I San Diego I Century City I San Francisco
