Karen Diaz c,GZc'iN6 "f('l y4rccIpo
Subject: FW: Historic Options ruvided to th a City Council
'After Distribution of Packet
From: Peter MacDonald Date (Q —7`i a ./3_
Sent: Tuesday, June 04, 2013 5:19 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Cc:
Subject: Historic Options
Good evening Members of.the Council,
A family matter has come up which prevents me from being at City Council tonight.
I support the points made in Jan Batcheller's letter to you yesterday and signed the Petition she is
presenting you with.
The City tried to institute a restrictive historic ordinance after the initial adoption of the Downtown
Specific Plan, and residents successfully protested that we have too many restrictions now. And yet,
historically significant properties are all being preserved already, along with some buildings not
worthy of preservation.
It is not enough to exempt just commercial properties from a historic ordinance because the
restrictions that need updating are in the Historic Preservation chapter of the Downtown Specific
Plan, which applies to all areas in the downtown — residential and commercial. The City should focus
on updating and clarifying that Historic Preservation Chapter, and then a separate historic ordinance
should become unnecessary.
Take care, Pete
Peter MacDonald
Law Office of Peter MacDonald
Pleasanton, CA 94566
r
