February 12, 2013
Michele Crose
Civic Arts Manager
City of Pleasanton
Dear Michele,
Re: Sandra Harrison Kay, applicant for Poet Laureate
Sandra Kay is an experienced and enthusiastic supporter of the literary arts in Pleasanton.
A published author and writer of many styles of poetry, she brings a creative and an
inclusive approach to all her artistic endeavors.
In addition to her passion for writing, Sandra is a successful business entrepreneur and
talented teacher. These experiences rounds out her application with administrative know-
how and leadership skills.
I met Sandra a dozen years ago when she taught creative non-fiction at the Amador
Valley Adult and Community Education program. We continued to meet at poetry
readings and literary events including the Pleasanton Poetry, Prose and the Arts Festival.
While I was Pleasanton Poet Laureate, Sandra led a program in humor poetry which she
called "Laugh Out Loud Poetry." With over 65 participants at Century House on a sunny
summer Sunday, this humor program was well received by the community.
I believe that Sandra will bring a unique combination of skills and creative spark to the
Pleasanton Poet Laureate program.
Sincerely,
Deborah Grossman
