BACKGROUND <br /> On November 20, 2012, the City Council approved the formation of a fourteen member <br /> Cultural Plan Update Steering Committee consisting of two (2) Civic Arts <br /> Commissioners, one (1) Library Commissioner, one (1) Youth Commissioner, one (1) <br /> Economic Vitality Committee Member, one (1) Amador Livermore Valley Historical <br /> society Board Member, one (1) Pleasanton Art League Member, one (1) Pleasanton <br /> Downtown Association Member, one (1) Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council Member, one <br /> (1) Pleasanton Unified School District Representative, one (1) Former Poet Laureate, <br /> two (2) Parent's/Community Member-at-large Representatives and one (1) Teen/ <br /> Community Member-at-large Representative. The Cultural Plan Update Steering <br /> Committee will assist the City with the development and Update of the Cultural Plan by <br /> providing adequate public participation and guidance during the planning process. <br /> Upon the City Council's approval, staff initiated the recruitment process for the Cultural <br /> Plan Update Steering Committee. The Civic Arts Commission, Library Commission, <br /> Economic Vitality Committee and Youth Commission representatives were selected <br /> from their respective memberships. The other advisory groups and/or organizations <br /> selected a representative to serve on the Steering Committee. The individuals that <br /> have been nominated to represent their respective organizations are as follows: <br /> ❖ (2) Civic Arts Commissioner(s): Karen De Baca Martens & Claudia Hess <br /> • (1) Library Commissioner: Kellene Cousins <br /> • (1) Youth Commissioner: Yandi Wu <br /> • (1) Economic Vitality Committee Member: Olivia Sanwong-Handerson <br /> • (1) Amador Livermore Valley Historical Society Board Member (Museum on <br /> Main): Sandra Jellison <br /> • (1) Pleasanton Unified School District Representative: Kelsey Hartman <br /> ❖ (1) Pleasanton Downtown Association Member: Dirk Christiansen <br /> • (1) Pleasanton Art League Member: Linda Jeffery Sailors <br /> • (1) Pleasanton Cultural Art Council Member: Rebecca Bruner <br /> ❖ (1) Former Poet Laureate: Jim Ott <br /> ❖ (2) Parent's/Community Member-at-large Representatives: Alma Spring and <br /> Joan Tenbrink <br /> ❖ (1) Teen/Community Member-at-large Representative: Lucille Brillhart <br /> In addition, staff worked with the City Clerk's office and Public Information Officer to <br /> conduct a recruitment process for the two (2) Parent/Community Member-at-large <br /> representatives and one (1) Teen/Community Member-at-large representative that <br /> included press releases in all of the local papers as well as being posited on the City's <br /> website. The City Clerk's office received two (2) applications for the Parent/Community <br /> Member-at-large and one (1) application for the Teen/Community-at-Large Member. <br /> Staff reviewed the applications and conducted interviews. Based on sitaffs review and <br /> the applicant's ability to attend the various Committee meetings and Public workshops, <br /> staff recommends the following three (3) individuals to serve on the Steering <br /> Committee: <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br />
