• Assessment of community arts and cultural needs and gaps in the current cultural
inventory.
• Development of initial recommendations and strategies and identification of metrics
or benchmarks for cultural development.
• Preparation of the Cultural Plan Update document.
AD-HOC Steering Committee
To assist with the project, staff has determined it beneficial to have ongoing community
participation, dialogue and direction. Similar to past large scale community based
planning efforts; staff is recommending a community based committee to help direct the
process.
Committee Roles and Expectations
To assure a successful and timely process, it is important to define the role of the
Committee. Similar to other recently formed committees, staff has identified the
following roles and responsibilities:
• Stay informed, collaborative and solution oriented. Members should be
committed to attending meetings, reading staff information, and being prepared to
balance individual and minority interests for the overall good of the community.
• Provide a forum for community discussion. Members should act vely engage the
community in a constructive dialogue about the options for future services and
facilities.
• Provide input on draft products. Members should review and provide input on
draft documents as requested by staff.
• Keep the commission and/or agency informed and up to date regarding
Committee activity. Members should keep the lines of communication open at
their commission or agency and assure that there is collective collaboration
throughout the process which helps lead to a successful conclusion.
• Provide recommendations as requested by City staff. Providing
recommendations to the City Council and/or commissions is important to assure
they receive guidance prior to making decisions need to adopt the Master Plan.
Committee Membership
Although there are a host of cultural art providers within the City, the Cultural Plan
Update will focus on the role the City plays in the provision of services and facilities,
independently as well as in cooperation with other private and non-profit organizations.
