THE CITY OF A O
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT I
pL£ASANTONo
November 20, 2012
Community Development Department
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT NUMBER 3 TO THE
FREEWAY MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT WITH CAILTRANS FOR
FUTURE STATE HIGHWAYS IN THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
SUMMARY
The City operates and maintains most Caltrans owned traffic signals at freeway
interchanges on 1-580 and 1-680 via an existing maintenance agreement. A project is
under development to modify the 1-580 at Foothill Road Interchange. Caltrans staff has
agreed to include the two traffic signals at the redesigned interchange into the existing
maintenance agreement. By assuming operation and maintenance responsibilities, City
staff will be able to implement and control traffic signal timing along the Foothill Road
corridor. City staff will be able to respond quickly during emergencies or special events
that impact corridor operations.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution to approve amendment
number 3 to the agreement for the maintenance of state highways in the City of
Pleasanton.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Initial capital expenditures will be included as part of the intersection reconstruction
contract. Operations and maintenance costs will be shared with Caltrans, resulting in a
net recurring monthly cost increase of less than $200.
