BACKGROUND The Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations project is an annual City program. The City's ADA Compliance Committee identifies and recommends locations for improvements that do not meet current ADA standards for existing crosswalk areas. The City of Pleasanton's Engineering Division considers priority, proximity to other locations requiring work, scheduling of other street projects, and available budget when selecting locations to be improved each year. This year's project consisted of: removing and replacing five pork chop islands along Hopyard Road; installing nine new ramps along Inglewood Drive and Del Valle Parkway; removing and replacing damaged sidewalks that are potential tripping hazards, and curb and gutter that either has cracks or drainage problems at various locations in the City. Additionally, the project included work by the City's on-call traffic signal maintenance contractor, AEGIS ITS, Inc., to modify pedestrian push buttons at pork chop islands to meet current ADA standards. On May 1, 2012, Pleasanton's City Council awarded the contract to the lowest responsible bidder, JJR Construction, Inc., in the amount of$83,598. Council authorized the Director of Community Development to approve change orders up to the project contingency amount of$16,720. The project has since been completed and is ready for acceptance. Budget Funding for the project was provided in the Annual Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations Project, CIP 115005. Change orders totaling $11,406.02 were due to expansion of project limits and additional requests from the Streets Division during construction. AEGIS ITS, Inc. installed pedestrian push buttons for a cost of $6,249. A summary of the project's funding sources and expenditures is presented in Attachment 1.
