BACKGROUND <br /> On August 21, 2012, the City Council approved the formation of a fourteen member <br /> Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee consisting of two (2) Parks and <br /> Recreation Commissioners, one (1) Civic Arts Commissioner, one (1) Human Services <br /> Commissioner, one (1) Youth Commissioner, two (2) Youth Sports Board Members, one <br /> (1) Senior Advisory Committee Board Member, one (1) Pleasanton Unified School <br /> District Representative, one (1) Pleasanton Downtown Association Representative, one <br /> (1) YMCA Representative, one (1) other Local Service Provider plus the addition of two <br /> (2) Parent's-at-large Representatives. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering <br /> Committee will assist the City with the development of the Parks and Recreation Master <br /> Plan by providing adequate public participation and guidance during the planning <br /> process. <br /> Upon the City Council's approval, staff initiated the recruitment process for the Parks <br /> and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee. The Parks and Recreation <br /> Commission, Civic Arts Commission, Human Services Commission and Youth <br /> Commission representatives will be selected from their respective memberships. The <br /> other advisory groups and/or organizations selected a representative to serve on the <br /> Steering Committee. The individuals that have been nominated to represent their <br /> respective organizations are as follows: <br /> ❖ (2) Parks and Recreation Commissioners: Jack Balch & Joseph Streng <br /> • (1) Civic Arts Commissioner: John Loll <br /> • (1) Human Services Commissioner: Joyce Berger <br /> • (1) Youth Commissioner: Katie Olmo <br /> + (2) Youth Sports Board Members: Greg Jetter(BUSC) & Todd Tucker(Seahawks) <br /> ❖ (1) Senior Advisory Committee Board Member: Christine Steiner <br /> • (1) Pleasanton Unified School District Representative: Gary Davila <br /> (1) Pleasanton Downtown Association Representative: Michael Hosterman <br /> ❖ (1) YMCA Representative: Kristine Farro <br /> • (1) Other Local Service Provider: Roy Ficken(Humane Society) <br /> In addition, staff worked with the City Clerk's office and Public Information Officer to <br /> conduct a recruitment process for the two (2) Parent-at-large representatives that <br /> included press releases in all of the local papers as well as being posted on the City's <br /> website. The City Clerk's office received six (6) applications on or before the deadline, <br /> and a screening committee comprised two (2) Parks and Recreation Commissioners <br /> and staff reviewed the applications and conducted interviews. Based on the Screening <br /> Committee's review and the applicant's ability to attend the various Committee meetings <br /> and Public workshops, the Screening Committee recommends the following two (2) <br /> individuals to serve on the Steering Committee: <br /> ❖ (2) Parent's-at-Large: Kelly French (PPIE, Lacrosse) & Andrea McGovern (FOG, <br /> YMPOC) <br /> These designees, as well as the other Commission's, Board's and/or organization's <br /> nominees listed above, are pending the City Council's confirmation. <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br />
