Mayor Hosterman reported that the community lost another very important person when Janet Liang, 25, lost her long battle with leukemia after receiving a bone marrow transplant. She asked the community to reach out and offer whatever financial assistance they are able to Ms. Liang's family who took on significant debt to support her lengthy treatment. She directed them to "Team Janet," which can be found on Facebook or through a basic Google search. Councilmember McGovern requested a preview of upcoming agendas. Mr. Fialho stated that the first meeting in October would include proposed certification of the City's Housing Element upon adoption of several minor amendments proposed by the State. The second item on that agenda relates to Pleasanton Garbage Service rates and an authorization for staff to proceed with a commercial recycling program. For the second meeting in October, staff intends to advance the new growth management ordinance. Councilmember McGovern asked when the new Council would be seated. Mr. Fialho said potentially the first meeting in December. He noted there would be no Council meeting on election night, as has been Council practice in recent years. Councilmember McGovern asked and Mr. Fialho confirmed that a second November meeting could be added to cover additional topics of significant importance to departing Councilmembers. She also suggested that additional items could be added to the first October meeting, as the Housing Element has been reviewed at length and should not take considerable time. Councilmember Sullivan said he had several items of interest including Measures PP & QQ as well as the definition of "slope." Mr. Fialho noted the Council has also asked staff to look into the peace commission matter, which is tentatively planned for the first October meeting, and that Kottinger may come forward in October depending on the Planning Commission's action tomorrow night. COUNCIL REPORTS: None ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 p.m. The Council extended a tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military. We wish to honor the memories of those who have died in past wars in defense of our country, including those who have died in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
