THE CITY OF <br /> ' "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 10 <br /> pL£ASANTON. <br /> August 21, 2012 <br /> Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PROPOSED PUBLIC ARTWORK "JOYFUL EMPOWERMENT" <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Pleasanton residents Nancy and Gary Harrington have proposed a 10-year plan to help <br /> the City of Pleasanton acquire public art. The overall plan has been reviewed and <br /> approved by the Civic Arts and Parks and Recreation Commissions, the Economic <br /> Vitality Advisory Committee, and the Board of Directors of the Pleasanton Downtown <br /> Association. Nancy and Gary Harrington have been approached by E3ob and Marilyn <br /> Athenour who would like to donate this piece to the City's Public Art Collection through <br /> the Harrington Art Partnership. On behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Athenour, Mr. and Mrs. <br /> Harrington, the Civic Arts Commission, and the Public Art Selection Subcommittee, staff <br /> is requesting that the City Council review and approve the newly-proposed artwork that <br /> has been identified for an addition to the City's public art collection. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the selected artwork, allowing for its acquisition and <br /> addition to the City's collection. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the selected artwork, allowing for its acquisition and <br /> addition to the City's collection. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> Funding for the acquisition of this artwork will be arranged and provided by Bob and <br /> Marilyn Athenour. Incidental costs for site preparation, or installation and signage will <br /> be borne by the City from its Public Art Acquisition Fund. Approximately $50,000 is <br /> currently available in the fund, and is included in the FY 2012/2013 Budget. <br />
