BACKGROUND
On an annual basis, the City has two projects designed to maintain the City's roadway
infrastructure. One of these projects is the resurfacing of various roadways by
overlaying existing pavement with a new layer of asphalt concrete, while the other
project is slurry sealing a different set of roadways as a preventive maintenance.
The current resurfacing project includes installing a new layer of asphalt concrete over
the existing pavement, repairing pavement distressed area, crack sealing, adjusting
appurtenances to grade, installing of pavement markers, and installing traffic detector
loops. This project will also include preparatory work for the upcoming slurry seal project
such as sealing pavement cracks, repairing pavement distressed areas, widening a
portion of Hopyard Road, and installation of traffic loop detectors. Traditionally, for
slurry seal projects, the preparatory work prior to the slurry sealing operation was being
performed by staff from the OSC. This assistance with preparatory work is no longer
available through the OSC. Staff included all the preparatory work for the next two
years of slurry seal projects into this year's resurfacing project in order to realize a cost
saving due to economy of scale, and to attain a much better product as slurry seal
contractors are generally not capable of handling pavement repair work. By including
this preparatory work under this project, it will position the city to complete the yearly
preventive maintenance work during the warmer summer months for optimum results.
DISCUSSION
The first component of the project consists of approximately 1,207,000 square feet of
pavement resurfacing for the following streets:
STREET NAME BEGIN LOCATION END LOCATION AREA TREATMENT(*)
ENDENHALL CT KIRKALDY ST KIRKALDY ST 19308 SAMI
BLAKEMORE CT CHURCHILL DR END 9971 SAMI
STACEY CT KIRKCALDY DR END 10300 SAMI
MONTPELLIER CT WEST LAS POSITAS END END 26900 SAMI
BEECHAM CT CHURCHILL DR END 17835 SAMI
FAIRLANDS DR CREEK BRIDGE PIMLICO DR 28716 SAMI
CAMBRIDGE CT FAIRLANDS DR END 8607 SAMI
CHELSEA DR CHURCHILL DR FAIRLANDS DR 8646 SAMI
RUNNYMEDE CT ROCKINGHAM DR END 20727 SAMI
FAIRLANDS DR CHURCHILL DR(WEST) CHELSEA 57400 SAMI
CAMELOT CT FAIRLANDS DR END 8457 SAMI
ANNIS CIR KIRKALDY ST KIRKALDY ST 34084 SAMI
CHURCHILL DR FAIRLANDS DR CHELSEA 60600 SAMI
STACEY WAY KIRKALDY DR BALLANTYNE DR 35509 SAMI
BYRON CT CHURCHILL DR END 8685 SAMI
GARLAND CT HOLLAND END 7187 SAMI
BROOKS CT HOLLAND END 6865 SAMI
CARVER CT ALVORD WAY END 10430 SAMI
CORDAY CT ALVORD WAY END 9743 SAMI
CARSON CT ALVORD WAY END 10522 SAMI
CORWIN CT ALVORD WAY END 9677 SAMI
ROBIN CT DORMAN RD END 24348 SAMI
GARNER CT CHAPMAN WAY END 26224 OL
