IN THE AMOUNT <br /> OF $2,627,777 FOR THE ANNUAL RESURFACING OF VARIOUS CITY <br /> STREETS (ANNUAL STREETS RESURFACING AND PREVENTATIVE <br /> MAINTENANCE) PROJECT, CIP NO. 125003 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project, which consists of <br /> approximately 3,857,000 square feet of pavement resurfacing and preventative <br /> maintenance on various city streets. Bids have been received and staff is <br /> recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, <br /> MCK Services, Inc. in the amount of $2,627,777 for the Annual Resurfacing of Various <br /> City Streets project, CIP 125003. The project was renamed the Annual Streets <br /> Resurfacing and Preventative Maintenance project on bid documents to alert <br /> prospective bidders to the fact that the scope of work is broader than the City's recent <br /> Annual Resurfacing projects. The objective of the project is to prolong the useful life of <br /> the existing street infrastructure while providing a safe and smooth riding condition. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the subject <br /> project to MCK Services, Inc. of Concord, California, for a low bid amount of <br /> $2,627,777. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute <br /> contract change order(s) for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $262,873 (10% <br /> of the contract) for unforeseen yet necessary related work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project is part of the City's on-going annual pavement rehabilitation and <br /> preventative maintenance efforts to repair deteriorated surfaces of City streets, thereby <br /> prolong the service life of existing roadway. This project is expected to reduce the <br /> long-term maintenance costs for the City. Funding for this project is allocated as part of <br /> the 2012-13 Capital Improvement Program budget that will be brought to City Council <br /> for approval on June 19, 2012. This project will also receive funding from CalRecycle <br /> Grant in the maximum, not-to-exceed amount of $55,483. The CalRecycle Grant will be <br /> paid to the City on a reimbursement basis. <br />
