THE CITY OF 5 <br /> -- "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTONo <br /> June 5, 2012 <br /> Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVE THE LOCATION OF THE PUBLIC ARTWORK, "WIND <br /> SONG" IN CENTENNIAL COMMUNITY PARK <br /> SUMMARY <br /> "Wind Song" is a bright and vibrant 15 foot abstract sculpture that has been donated to <br /> the City's public art collection by Nancy and Gary Harrington. The proposed location for <br /> the piece is in the Centennial Community Park, which is adjacent to the Senior Center. <br /> According to the City's Public Art Program, if the proposed location lies within a City <br /> park and/or recreational facility, the location must also be reviewed and approved by <br /> the Parks and Recreation Commission. Upon its approval and that of the Civic Arts <br /> Commission, the item is then forwarded to the City Council for its review and <br /> consideration. At its regular meeting on April 16, 2012, the Parks and Recreation <br /> Commission approved the proposed location for "Wind Song" in Centennial Community <br /> Park. At its meeting on May 11, 2012, the Civic Arts Commission also approved the <br /> proposed location in Centennial Community Park. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the location of the public artwork, "Wind Song" in <br /> Centennial Community Park. <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the location of the public artwork, "Wind Song" in <br /> Centennial Community Park. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the location of the public artwork, "Wind Song" in <br /> Centennial Community Park. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The artwork "Wind Song," which is valued at $51,480, has been donated to the City by <br /> Nancy and Gary Harrington. Pursuant to the terms of the Harrington Art Partnership, it <br /> is the City's responsibility to coordinate and pay for the installation of the public artwork. <br /> The cost of installing the piece is estimated between $7,000 and $9,000 and will be <br /> funded through the Public Art Acquisition Fund #038-900-4385. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
