Proclamation to recognize April as the Month of the Young Child <br /> Councilmember Sullivan introduced Betsy McClellan and Casey Nisson. He read the proclamation <br /> designating April as the Month of the Young Child into the record. <br /> Betsy McClellan, Friends of Gingerbread Preschool, introduced several members of the audience and <br /> thanked the Council for the proclamation and its continued commitment to those who teach and support <br /> young children. In commemoration of this effort, the school will hold its annual silent auction and family <br /> social as well as participate in a special art auction. <br /> 16. Public Comment <br /> Fred Norman reported that 75 American military men and women have been killed in Iraq and <br /> Afghanistan in 2012. He read the names of 29 of those killed into the record. <br /> Cathe Norman read the remaining 32 names of those killed since the last reading before City Council. <br /> She invited the Council and public to join Pleasantonians for Peace at its next peaceful protest on the <br /> fourth Wednesday and peaceful vigil on the second Wednesday. <br /> Abram Wilson, former Mayor of San Ramon, thanked the Normans for remembering those who made <br /> the ultimate sacrifice for their country. He urged the Council to consider supporting a regional <br /> opportunity for a new memorial park cemetery in Tassajara. He provided the Council with literature and <br /> requested a meeting with staff and perhaps a member of the Council. <br /> Dave Campbell noted that Bike to Work Day is on Thursday, May 10th and he encouraged the Council <br /> to pledge its support by riding to work any day that week.
