BACKGROUND
This project is part of the annual maintenance program and will include removal and
replacement of sidewalks that present potential tripping hazards and curb & gutter to
improve drainage flow. Access ramps that are damaged or missing near the project
work area will also be replaced to meet the current ADA standards. The locations are
selected from the Street Department work order list and also from direct requests from
residents to the Traffic Division (see Attachment 1 for project locations).
DISCUSSION
Bids
Sealed bids for this project were opened on April 23, 2012. There were a total of five
bids received ranging from $178,467.00 to $221,045.00 (see Attachment 2, Bid
Summary). The engineer's estimate for this project was $200,000.
The low bid of $178,467.00 was received from Rosas Brothers Construction of Oakland,
California. Since all bid documents were found to be in order and past work performed
by this contractor was verified to be satisfactory, staff is recommending award of the
construction contract to this firm.
Budget
Staff recommends that the construction contingency amount for this project be set at
approximately 12% of the construction contract due to potential expansion of project
limits due to latent defects that become apparent during the demolition phase.
Schedule
The proposed schedule for the subject project is as follows:
Approval of Plans and Specifications and Award of Contract May 15, 2012
Start of Construction May 25, 2012
End of Construction July 31, 2012
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
1 17414 0
(
Brian /Ian Emily 9 Wa ner Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
