6 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PL£ASANTON° <br /> May 15, 2012 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS AND AWARD <br /> CONTRACT TO ROSAS BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT <br /> OF $178,467 FOR THE ANNUAL CURB AND GUTTER REPLACEMENT <br /> PROJECT, CIP NO. 115009 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Bids have been received for the subject project for removing and replacing <br /> approximately 3,568 square feet of sidewalk, 1,585 linear feet of curb and gutter, and <br /> installing 56 access ramps. Staff is recommending award of the construction contract to <br /> the lowest responsible bidder, Rosas Brothers Construction, in the amount of $178,467. <br /> The project consists of removing and replacing sidewalks that are potential tripping <br /> hazards as well as curb and gutter to improve drainage flow. It also includes installation <br /> of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access ramps for accessibility at various <br /> locations in the City. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the contract for the project to Rosas Brothers <br /> Construction, of Oakland, California, for a low bid amount of $178,467.00 <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute any <br /> required contract change orders to address unanticipated project conditions for a <br /> not-to-exceed amount of $21,133 (approximately 12% of the contract). <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project is part of an annual ongoing program that will replace and upgrade existing <br /> infrastructure and will reduce maintenance costs. Funding for this project will be <br /> provided by the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project, Annual Curb and Gutter <br /> Replacement (CIP No. 115009). A summary of funding and estimated expenditures is <br /> presented in Attachment 3. <br />
