6 THE CITY OF CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT PL£ASANTON° May 15, 2012 Community Development Engineering Division TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS AND AWARD CONTRACT TO ROSAS BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $178,467 FOR THE ANNUAL CURB AND GUTTER REPLACEMENT PROJECT, CIP NO. 115009 SUMMARY Bids have been received for the subject project for removing and replacing approximately 3,568 square feet of sidewalk, 1,585 linear feet of curb and gutter, and installing 56 access ramps. Staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Rosas Brothers Construction, in the amount of $178,467. The project consists of removing and replacing sidewalks that are potential tripping hazards as well as curb and gutter to improve drainage flow. It also includes installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access ramps for accessibility at various locations in the City. RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. 2. Review the bids received and award the contract for the project to Rosas Brothers Construction, of Oakland, California, for a low bid amount of $178,467.00 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute any required contract change orders to address unanticipated project conditions for a not-to-exceed amount of $21,133 (approximately 12% of the contract). FINANCIAL STATEMENT This project is part of an annual ongoing program that will replace and upgrade existing infrastructure and will reduce maintenance costs. Funding for this project will be provided by the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project, Annual Curb and Gutter Replacement (CIP No. 115009). A summary of funding and estimated expenditures is presented in Attachment 3.
