PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS C. Consideration of Options for Merging the Housing and Human Services Commissions Mr. Bocian advised that at the August 2011 meetings, the Human Services and Housing Commissions each approved the preparation of a report that would provide information concerning the potential for merging the two Commissions. At these meetings, the Commissions identified the following scope of information that should be included in the report: • A draft listing of duties for a combined commission • Current and anticipated workload of both commissions • Survey information regarding commission structures for housing and human services oversight in other communities • An outline of how commissioner phasing/attrition would occur • Address concerns that existing commissioners are adequately trained to handle the duties of the new commission • Provide a listing of positives and negatives resulting from merging the commissions Mr. Bocian reviewed with Commissioners a draft listing of duties for a merged commission and information on the potential commissioner workload. He also provided survey information from surrounding communities, options for commission membership, and the advantages and disadvantages of merging the two commissions. Mr. Bocian then reviewed with Commissioners' comments and action taken by the Human Services Commission at its November 2, 2011 meeting. He then asked if this Commission wanted to provide feedback and continue with the review process. Chairperson Lopez opened the meeting for public comment at 8: 40 p.m. Page - 1 -
