Valley Concert Chorale, Bill Leach — Requested Funding: $7,500 — thanked the Commission for its past support. He advised that chorale singing has become most popular in the United States. Valley Concert Chorale is pleased to be doing performance collaborations with other local organizations and noted that one-half of its membership are Pleasanton residents. Funds requested will be for offsetting the costs of the Directors and Accompanist's time, rehearsal and performance space rental, organist and instrumental fees, and printing expenses for promotional and printing materials. Commission comments and questions asked of the representative included: • Asking for information about where majority of costs would be. • Information about ticket revenue and sales. • Budget dues and fees and the kind of outreach that was being done. • Concerns about providing grants that are for religious programs. Livermore Valley Opera, Elizabeth Wells — Requested Funds: $3,900 — Ms. Wells felt that the program for which funds are being requested meets requirements within the City's Cultural Plan, and would be of value to all who learn about the program. The project is for a professional opera production at the Firehouse Arts Center for one weekend in 2013, which would include one (1) evening and one (1) matinee performance. Commission comments and questions asked of the representative included: • Requesting information about the scale of the program to be presented. • Information about budget for artist's fees and the role of the artist within the project. • Details about the marketing and promoting of the program. • Consideration of possibly performing the program in Pleasanton. • Explanation of "Professional" Opera terminology and whether it should be a named program, rather than just "opera production." • Performance ticket sales information. Cantabella Children's Chorus, Anne Coll/Howard Tsztoo — Requested Funds: $7,500 — funds requested would be used for a first ever chorale camp with experienced music specialists who would provide training in musicianship, music literacy, and choral singing. Commission comments and questions asked of the representatives included: • Impressed with the program and its professionalism and liked what is proposed. • Information about admission prices, the number of teachers to be at the camp and whether the program would be working at full capacity. • Concerns about having funds for a clavinova included in the grant proposal and whether the instrument would remain with the organization. • Lack of Pleasanton residents as board members being shown in the grant application. • Discussion regarding availability of the program to low-income students. Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council, Jill Vellinger/Dave Wright — Requested Funds: $10,000 — funds requested will be used for planning, coordinating and overseeing a Pleasanton Downtown Arts Festival in collaboration with other organizations. The plan is for the Festival to provide both paid and free events, along with some classes during a two or more day event throughout Downtown Pleasanton with the focus being in and around the Firehouse Arts Center.
