THE CITY OF
4
Imo# -- "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTON
April 3, 2012
Community Services
TITLE: RATIFICATION OF THE APPROVAL TO AWARD CONTRACT TO
MISSION VALLEY SPORTS OFFICIALS, INC. TO PROVIDE UMPIRE
COLLECTIVE SERVICES FOR ADULT SOFTBALL LEAGUES
SUMMARY
The City has historically utilized contract services to provide officiating services for City
youth and adult sport leagues. With the expiration of the current services agreement,
staff recently conducted a Request for Proposals (RFP) process. After conducting a
formal review of both proposals, staff determined that Mission Valley Sports Officials,
Inc. is the most responsive vendor to provide official selection, training, scheduling,
supervision, and payment in accordance with the City's adult softball league policies
and scheduling.
RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the agreement with Mission Valley Sports Officials, Inc. to provide umpire
collective services for City adult softball leagues.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The total cost of the services is based on the type of game played, league versus
tournament play; and the number of umpires assigned per game. The cost associated
with this contract will not exceed $126,000 in the first year (2012); $126,000 in the
second year (2013); and $128,000 in the third and final year. The cost of the
agreement is offset completely by revenues the City receives from tournament fees and
the adult softball program. Funding for this contract is available and budgeted in the FY
2011/2012 Operating Budget.
