Police <br /> 8. Approve the transfer of ownership of Police canine "Robby" to Officer Randy Paulson <br /> MOTION: It was M/S by Cook-Kallio/Thorne to approve Consent Calendar as submitted. Motion <br /> carried by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 9. Proclamation proclaiming November"Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" <br /> Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio introduced Danielle Mintz from the Pancreatic Cancer Network who would <br /> provide comments. Ms. Mintz thanked the Council on behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Network for the <br /> proclamation and a special thanks to Councilmember Thorne in his support. <br /> Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio read the proclamation proclaiming November "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness <br /> Month." <br /> 10. Proclamation proclaiming November 20-26 "National Family Week" <br /> Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio presented the proclamation and introduced Bruce Bird from the Church of <br /> Latter Day Saints. <br /> Mr. Bird cited the strength of families in Pleasanton which contribute to the quality of life, stating they <br /> promote such values and are grateful the City Council recognizes the importance of the family through <br /> it proclaiming November 20-26 National Family Week. <br /> 11. Commendation recognizing the 2011 Hometown Holiday Committee <br /> Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio recognized the committee as a small group of volunteers who plan for the <br /> holiday to ensure Pleasanton is provided with a wonderful family-friendly holiday parade, held this year <br /> on December 3rd, which will attract 20,000 spectators and 2,500 participants annually and is truly a <br /> home-town tradition. She called on committee members and Parade Coordinator Brian Duchover to <br /> receive the commendation. <br /> Mr. Duchover described the annual event, recognized volunteers and thanked the Council for the honor <br /> and privilege to be part of it. Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio then read the commendation and welcomed Santa <br /> Claus to the meeting. <br /> 12. Public Comment <br /> Karen Haley Allen said her son is Derrick Allen and there was a remembrance of him in a newspaper <br /> article on September 23rd, and the fund she is raising to support the Arts at Amador. The first year, they <br /> were able to raise enough funds for the Visual Arts Academy to locate a display case in the high <br /> school. She said her passion is to elevate the awareness of arts for youth in the City. Schools are doing <br /> a good job, there is a nice art exhibit at Noni's Bistro, and she would like to be part of a group that helps <br /> to do fundraising, raise awareness in all schools, and she asked for the Vice Mayor's help in forming a <br /> committee and expand it to all schools and the Fine Arts Council. <br /> Vice Mayor Cook-Kallio voiced support and said she would address this under Matters Initiated. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 5 November 15, 2011 <br />
