BACKGROUND
On May 3, 2011, the City Council adopted the Planning Commissions recommendation
to re-evaluate the Downtown Historic Preservation policies, guidelines, and processes
as a Council Priority.
At the City Council October 18, 2011 meeting, the city approved the process for
coordinating participation on the ad hoc Task Force, to consist of seven members - two
Planning Commissioners and five- at-large Pleasanton residents.
At its October 26, 2011 meeting, the Planning Commission designated Commissioners
Jennifer Pearce and Phillip Blank to participate on the Task Force.
Following the direction received from the City Council at its October 18, 2011 meeting
staff initiated recruitment for the ad hoc Historic Preservation Task Force. Recruitment
of the five at-large Pleasanton resident Task Force members consisted of: notices on
multiple dates in the Pleasanton Weekly and on the City's website.
The City received 10 applications from the public by the deadline of November 18th,
2011. From the applications received, the City Council has selected the five at-large
appointees, as follows:
- Emilie Cruzan
- Linda Garbarino
- Gerald Hodnefield
- Paul Martin
- Bonnie Krichbaum
Task Force Focus
The focus of the Historic Preservation Task Force will be to revisit selected sections of
the Downtown Specific Plan and associated Downtown Design Guidelines. The Historic
Preservation Task Force will review the current Downtown Specific Plan and Design
Guidelines and make recommendations to the City Council to help clarify City policy on
historic preservation and development review processes in the Historic Downtown and
other areas within the City.
DISCUSSION
Schedule
The Task Force is anticipated to convene in late January 2012 and complete its work by
July 2012, with monthly meetings of the task force and additional meetings scheduled
as needed.
Upon the confirmation of the Ad Hoc Task Force members, staff will establish a meeting
schedule.
