December 6, 2011 Livermore —Pleasanton Fire Department TITLE: APPROVE THE REPLACEMENT PURCHASE OF A TYPE I FIRE ENGINE SUMMARY The City's Replacement Plan includes replacement of a 1985 Van Pelt Type I fire engine in 2011-2012. In anticipation of this purchase, the LPFD researched various replacement and equipment manufacturer options and has determined that the best available alternative is to purchase a Pierce Quantum Type I Fire Engine from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., (Pierce) with specifications generally consistent with a recently completed City and County of San Francisco competitive bid process and contract award. Purchasing the equipment off the City and County of San Francisco's bid process greatly reduces the administrative cost of preparing a request for bids while assuring a reasonable price for the vehicle. In addition, staff research indicates that the recommended vehicle manufacturer is the only manufacture that currently meets the needs of the LPFD. RECOMMENDATION Authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement with Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $556,490.32 for the acquisition of a Pierce Quantum Type I Fire Engine. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The replacement purchase of one Type I Fire Engine is approved and budgeted in the Fire Apparatus Replacement Plan (Fund 047-900-4465), for fiscal year 2011-2012. Due to the extended time necessary to build and deliver the vehicle it will not be delivered until fiscal year 2012-2013.
