THE CITY OF O{{V6
/1
"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON.
October 4, 2011
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: ACCEPT EMERGENCY WATER LINE RELOCATION PERFORMED BY
MCGUIRE AND HESTER FOR THE PLEASANTON RIDGE LANDSLIDE
EMERGENCY PROJECT, CIP NO. 808104
SUMMARY
On Friday March 25, 2011, a landslide on the Pleasanton Ridge broke a City water main
that provides potable water to over 250 homes. The City Manager, acting as the
Director of Emergency Services, declared a local emergency. This allowed City staff to
waive formal bidding processes to undertake the immediate permanent repair of this
water main. McGuire and Hester performed the permanent relocation of the 10" water
line. This fully restored water service and ensured safe and reliable potable water and
fire hydrant service. The project is complete and ready for acceptance by the City
Council.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Accept the improvements for this project.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the subject project.
3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $14,047.11 to McGuire and
Hester, thirty (30) days after recordation of the Notice of Completion.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The actual cost of the repairs totaled $155,904, which was less than the original
estimate of $200,000. Work performed by City staff was charged to the applicable
operating budget.
In a staff report dated March 31, 2011, it was identified that the funding for this project
would be from the City's water enterprise fund (Repair and Replacement Fund) and the
Pleasanton Township County Water District #3 Trust Fund. Upon review of the
Pleasanton Township County Water District #3 Trust Fund it was determined this
funding could not be applied to the water line relocation. Full funding for this project will
be from the City's water enterprise Repair and Replacement Fund.
