THE CITY OF 0 L-1f/
Ewa — ' ° - r CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTONo
August 16, 2011
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: APPROVE CONSULTANT AGREEMENT WITH AQUATIC DESIGN GROUP
IN THE AMOUNT OF $208,250.00 TO COMPLETE THE ARCHITECTURAL
DESIGN AND PROVIDE ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR THE
PLEASANTON AQUATIC CENTER RENOVATION
SUMMARY
City Staff has identified the need to renovate three of the four pools and associated
mechanical equipment, as well as the existing pool decking, at the Pleasanton Aquatic
Center located at 4455 Black Avenue. Staff had previously contracted with this Aquatic
Design Group to provide a preliminary design and cost estimate for the project. At this
time, staff desires to contract with Aquatic Design Group to complete the design and
preparation of construction documents for the subject project, as well as perform a
storm water treatment analysis and plan for the pool deck areas.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve the consultant agreement with Aquatic Design Group for a cost not-to-
exceed $208,250, to complete the design and provide architectural and engineering
services for the Pleasanton Aquatic Center Renovation Project.
2. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute contract
change orders for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $41,650 (20% of the contract
amendment amount), for necessary related project work for a total potential contract
value of $249,900.
3. Authorize the City Manager to execute the attached subject contract.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Funding in the fiscal year 2008-09 Mid-Term Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
included $100,000 in funding for the design of the project. In August 2009, the City
received Aquatic Design Group's design plans and estimate. The total project cost,
including contingency, was estimated at $3,668,744 at the time of the preliminary
design. With the 2010-11 Mid-term CIP and the 2011-12 CIP, additional funds have
been added, bringing the current balance of the project to $3,660,000, from which the
contract cost with Aquatic Design Group ($208,250) will be drawn. It should be noted
that the City has also applied for grant funding from East Bay Regional Park District
under Measure WW Park Bond Extension for this project.
Due to the nature of the proposed design, maintenance costs are anticipated to
decrease substantially with these modifications.
